Good Things Ahead for Zion

A 3-part series of sermons regarding passages from the Book of Isaiah

Pastor Steve Estes: “God is telling his people of the good that is in the future, even though they may be going through so many difficult times right now.”

“It will help you to have a Bible with you.  I will be reading from the English Standard Version, the ESV, but of course, you may have another version available.”

Good Things Ahead for Zion - Part A - Isaiah 61:10 - 62:7

Good Things Ahead for Zion - Part B - Isaiah 61:10-11

Pastor Steve Estes: “When you’ve been raised with something, it doesn’t seem strange.  But for people who haven’t been raised with it, when you come across it as an adult, it raises eyebrows.”

“The same is true with many things about the Bible.  The language is so old, the cultures are so ancient that sometimes you read a verse, and to Christians it may sound normal but to others it might be off putting.  This is especially true with the Old Testament.“

Good Things Ahead for Zion - Part C - Isaiah 62:1-7

It is important to get familiar with Parts A and B first, in order to have a good background on the subject before proceeding with Part C.

Pastor Steve Estes: “Sometimes people ask me after I’ve spoken somewhere where they weren’t present, ‘how did your sermon go?’  And it’s always a little hard to answer that because if I say ‘Oh, great, it was a great sermon’, obviously that just isn’t very good.”

“And often I don’t know how it went because I wasn’t forced to listen to it like all those poor people sitting in the pews.  When you guys see guys on TV a lot of time that are television preachers, not all of them but some of them are clearly self-promoting, strutting peacocks on the stage so it feels a little awkward for me to say, if you haven’t heard the last 2 sermons that I happened to preach from Isaiah chapter 61 and 62, you really need to hear them.  I’m not saying that because I think they’re so red hot or anything, but rather because they give a background and lead up to our passage today that I think would be helpful for you if you don’t have that background.”
