Salvation Belongs to the Lord

Jonah 2 is a poem sandwiched between two proses. Jonah "knew" doctrine, but he didn't "possess" the doctrine.

1. Recall: The Horror of Sin

Jonah realizes the horizontal consequences of his actions.
Disobedience to God's word never lands us where we think it will. It never comes through on its promises.

2. Perceive: The Exaltation of God

Salvation belongs to the Lord.

His judgement is real: God always judges sin.
His presence is joy: Joy is God Himself. He is the wellspring of life.

Jonah found only misery apart from God.
Idolatry is choosing sewage over clean water. His reign is supreme: God heard Jonah's cry from the deep.

3. Experience: The Operation of Sovereign Grace

God fashioned a unique way of saving Jonah from drowning. God is both willing and able to save you and me from our sin.
